The TemuKira Liveaboard is part of Indonesia based Grand Komodo Fleet. TemuKira is constructed from local timber in traditional Indonesian style. It is 27.5m (84ft) long and 7m (22ft) wide. The Indonesian registered boat conducts regular 6 and 10-night cruises from Sorong through the Raja Ampat region.
Accommodation & Facilities
The boat offers good comfort levels for up to 12 guests in 6 cabins. All cabins are equipped with individually adjustable air-conditioning and a private bathroom. There are two cabins with double beds and four cabins with bunk beds.
Delicious meals are served in the air-conditioned salon. The Temu Kira has all modern technical equipment and a dive tender. The power supply is 220 volts via European outlets. The boat has a large, partially covered sundeck and a separate dive deck. Guests are generally impressed by the attentive crew. Their friendly and helpful manner makes it easy to overlook the occasional communication problem.
Coffee, tea and drinking water are included in the cruise cost. Guests can purchase beer and soft drinks onboard, but wine, liquor and other alcoholic beverages are not available and divers are not allowed to bring their own alcohol onboard. Incidentals can be paid in cash only (IDR or USD).
TemuKira Liveaboard itineraries depart from Sorong.
What to expect
The dive operation is very customer focused, and there is always a local dive guide on board who is familiar with the waters of the area. Up to 4 dives per day are offered according to the schedule: 7am morning dive, 11am 2nd dive, 3pm 3rd dive, 7pm night dive. Generally the dives start from the main vessel and divers get picked up with the dive tender.
Divers should bring your own dive gear including dive computer, reef hook and dive light. Dive gear rental on board is limited and must be pre-arranged. In order to join a Grand Komodo Fleet cruise divers must have logged at least 50 dives.
The TemuKira Liveaboard has itineraries exclusively in Raja Ampat. The waters surrounding Raja Ampat offer enchanting coral gardens, cliffs and an extraordinarily diverse world of fish. Macro lovers too will enjoy this region and discover pygmy seahorses, frogfish, blue ribbon eels and an incredible variety of nudibranchs. The reefs in Sorong, Waigeo and Misool are spectacular and current diving is excellent here, with the highlights being manta sites.
Grand Komodo Tours have been offering these cruises very successfully for some years. We know of no other dive vessels who offer such outstanding diving for so little money. Customer satisfaction is very high and many divers are loyal repeat visitors. The slightly lower comfort level of the boats compared the newer vessels is more than offset by the lovely atmosphere.
