Most visitors arrive via Vava’u International Airport (VAV), usually with a connection from Tongatapu (Nuku‘alofa). Transfers to Vava’u Beachfront Villas can be arranged ahead of time.

Ax-Factor SSI Dive Centre
Ax-Factor Dive operates as a small-group SSI dive centre in Vava’u, ensuring each diver gets plenty of attention and support. Daily dive trips explore a variety of underwater landscapes suited for different experience levels, with options for gear rental, guided dives and structured training.
One of the highlights of diving with Ax-Factor is the Clan McWilliam wreck — a large, historic freighter resting in Vava’u waters that attracts abundant marine life. Alongside this, reef dives feature coral walls, swim-throughs and thriving fish communities that keep divers coming back for more.
Ax-Factor’s UV night dives are a must-try experience. Using special lighting, the reef transforms into a glowing world of fluorescent colours that highlight nocturnal creatures and coral features not seen in daylight.
Whale Swimming with Explore Vava’u
In addition to diving, Vava’u is world-famous for its humpback whale migration during the Southern Hemisphere winter. Between mid-July and October, humpbacks arrive in Tonga’s warm, calm waters to mate, give birth and nurse their calves — creating one of the few places on earth where visitors can swim with these majestic animals. Explore Vava’u runs daily whale watching and whale swimming charters from Neiafu, offering private or shared boat adventures with experienced local guides and all required equipment. Island Dives
Island dive sites are approx 30 min picturesque boat ride. Typically these sites have low current, high visibility and amazing under water topography with caves, swim throughs, tunnel and healthy coral reef. Small numbers: max 6 divers.
Clan McWilliam Wreck
Dive on Tongas No1 Dive Wreck, the Mini Titanic “Clan Mc William” a 130m 425ft long and 100 year old, well preserved freighter. She sank on Boxing Day 1927 due to a fire in a very protected area a teaming artificial reef in pool like conditions every day. Conveniently located only 250m in front of the dive centre jetty.
