B&J Diving is one of the largest dive operators in Malaysia with 14 PADI Instructors and dive masters, and additional team of twelve to handle the boats and dive centre operations.
B&J Diving’s facilities are fully equipped with the best dive rental equipment available on the market (primarily Scubapro), which is serviced on a regular basis. They are also the only dive centre on Tioman that provides Nitrox, Oxygen and Helium tank fills. Both shops have a well-stocked retail section too including PADI educational material, dive gear, t-shirts, accessories and tec diving equipment.
B&J Diving has three boats:
- Two 40 foot Wave Ryder speedboats, powered by twin 225HP four stroke engines, able to get 20 divers to any dive site around Tioman Island in minutes.
- One former 55ft fishing boat which has been modified to carry 18 divers greater distances. It has a large sundeck, on-board toilet, 2 freshwater tanks, a dive platform with tank racks.
All boats carry VHF radio, GPS, life vests, Oxygen and Medic First Aid kit.
What we think
As well as being the biggest and best run dive centre in Tioman, B&J Diving place great emphasis on protecting their environment and are a GoEco operator, GreenFins Member and Project AWARE award winner. They take great care of the ocean environment through regular clean up activities plus they have a strict no gloves and no touch policy.
B&J Diving’s headquarters and Tioman Dive Resort are located in Air Batang Bay on Tioman Island with a second dive centre located in Salang Bay.
Resort & Accommodation
B&J has built its own resort to offer customers not only spacious and clean rooms, but also daily room cleaning service and all the amenities for a luxurious stay on Tioman.
Tioman Dive Resort, is a modern cosy resort with just 11 secluded rooms available to diver and non-divers alike. Tioman Dive Resort is conveniently located just meters away from our scuba diving centre in ABC (Ayer Batang Bay) on Tioman Island.
Two room standards are offered: Deluxe and the slighter more spacious Executive. There are double, twin, triple and even a quad bed configurations available.
All rooms come fully equipped with: Air-Conditioning, Ceiling Fan, Hot Water Shower, Hair Dryer, Mini Fridge, Kettle, Free Tea/Coffee, Personal Safe, Wardrobe, Desk, LCD/LED TV, Satellite TV, DVD Player, Balcony, Room Cleaning, and Laundry.
It’s also home to the B&J Beach Bar – the perfect place to relax after a happy day of diving.
Tioman Island open for diving from early February until mid November each year, as from mid-November through to early February, Tioman sees its monsoon season. The absolute best time for diving during the year is March – June, where you can expect visibility of up to 30m, however the weather and conditions are good for diving all year round, with water temperature between 27 and 29 degrees C.
B&J Divers are proud of their 100% safety record facilitated by regularly maintained equipment and robust safety standards. Dive groups are always kept small with an average of 4 divers and a maximum of 6 divers per PADI Divemaster.
The boats head out every morning at around 9 am for a double dive trip, which includes two boat dives at some of the best dive sites around Tioman Island. Dive time is around 50 minutes and after the first dive lunch is served in the vicinity of Coral Island, where you’ll have a good hour surface interval to sunbathe or go snorkeling. The second dive will always be at a different dive site in the area. Return to base is between 1 pm and 2 pm, depending on the boat and the dive sites visited.
For those who can’t get enough, the third dive of the day leaves around 3 pm and visits a dive site closer to Tioman Island. It’s likely to be a shallow dive with great corals, turtles and blacktip reef sharks or some of the wrecks. Return to base by around 5 pm.
Night diving available daily, and depending on the number of divers is either a shore or boat dive.
Shore dives are good for check-out dives if you haven’t been diving in a while, and they also offer a different insight to Tioman’s marine life. Not to be missed is a dive underneath Salang Bay jetty where you literally can’t see past the millions of anchovies and yellow striped scad.
Training Offered
Being a PADI 5 Star IDC (Instructor Dive Centre), B&J Diving offers the whole range of PADI dive courses from Discover Scuba up to professional training. If you are interested in getting trained, or have someone in your group – including kids – who would like to learn or experience Scuba diving – get in touch weeks before you go, and you can complete the PADI eLearning in advance so you can hop straight into the water once you arrive.
Their dive centre in ABC has a swimming pool, which makes the first step into scuba diving a bit easier for beginners.
