Oceanholic Dive Centre is located on Dhigurah Island, South Ari Atoll. The waters around are home to manta rays, dolphins and particularly famous for the resident population of whale sharks. The island is home to a large resident population of juvenile whale sharks, a secondary nursery where a largely male population reside for 20 or so years before they reach sexual maturity.

A large area of the island isn’t populated and left in wilderness. It also has a large sandbank at its tip.

Guest services include bicycle rental, laundry and airport transfers at a fee. Safety deposit boxes are also available. Arrangements can be made for diving and snorkeling. The tour desk can also help with day trip information such as whale-shark watching.

Dhigurah is located in South Ari Atoll, a 20 minutes’ flight or 1 hour 30 minutes’ speedboat drive from Male.

Dive/Stay packages are available with nearby guest house White Sand Dhigurah. Within walking distance from the white sandy beach, Whitesand Dhigurah Guesthouse offers modern rooms with air conditioning and an on-site restaurant serving Maldivian, Asian and Western dishes.

Each air-conditioned room has a flat-screen satellite TV channels and a private bathroom with shower and free toiletries, select rooms come with open-air shower area, Jacuzzi and bathtub.

Oceanholic has a range of equipment available to hire. The centre offers all PADI courses up to Dive Master.

Diving is from a 17m traditional Maldivian boat (dhoni) designed specifically for diving and snorkelling excursions. The dhoni is equipped with safety gear including Oxygen, First Aid Kit and signalling devices and life jackets and has a marine toilet onboard.

 

Best time to dive

Diving in the Maldives is suitable all year round. Occurring from December to May is the Northeast Monsoon which provides calm seas and clear water in the east. These conditions are not the same in the west at this time. During this period the air temperature is generally around 29° and the water temperature is 26-29°. From June to November is the southwest monsoon where the water is clear towards the western atolls but the seas are rougher at this time and it as also generally a wetter time. The expected air temperature is 26° and water temperature is from 26-29° at this time.
