Discover Tahiti’s underwater world

From underwater treasure hunts to UNESCO-protected shark dives, The Islands of Tahiti offer divers far more than just pretty reefs and warm waters.

One of the most innovative new experiences to Tahiti’s dive scene is Fluid Tahiti’s underwater escape game – a unique experience where divers solve puzzles and hunt for “treasure” in an immersive underwater adventure. Designed like a traditional escape room but set in the lagoon, it combines environmental awareness with interactive gameplay, creating a fun, team-based activity perfect for experienced divers looking for something new. Divers must book in groups of 5 and be comfortable diving in open water.

Beyond this novelty, here is a taster of Tahiti’s breathtaking dive experiences.

Tetamanu Pass, Fakarava Atoll – A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, home to the iconic “Wall of Sharks”, where divers can encounter hundreds of grey reef sharks on a single dive. It’s also the location behind multiple Underwater Photographer of the Year award-winning shots.

Tiputa Pass, Rangiroa Atoll – A thrilling drift dive known for its strong currents and regular sightings of dolphins, hammerhead sharks, and manta rays. Reserved for advanced divers, Tiputa Pass offers some of the Atoll’s most iconic experiences.

Tikehau Atoll – A diver’s paradise famous for its manta rays and pink sand beaches. According to the legendary marine researcher Jacques Cousteau, it has a higher concentration of fish than any other lagoon in French Polynesia.

The Aquarium, Bora Bora – Calm, shallow, and full of colourful marine life, this site is ideal for beginners or those after a gentle dive with big visual pay-off. It serves as a protected habitat and coral nursery to its colourful inhabitants.

Tahiti Tourisme will be at the Go Diving Show in Sydney (6-7 September), so if you or your readers are attending, it’s a great chance to learn more. Alternatively, contact the team of dive travel experts here at Diveplanit Travel for a curated Tahiti diving experience.
