| Location: | The Club Paradise House Reef pretty much surrounds the southern most point of Dimakya Island. |
Where else but diving Club Paradise Palawan will you get up close with friendly turtles, seahorses, schools of catfish and even flying gurnards looking for a place to rest.
The Club Paradise House Reef is within the Dimakya Island Sanctuary area, so, although what at first appears to be just flat sandy bottom, presents much more than initially meets the eye.
The turtles here are extremely inquisitive. This is possibly because guests have taken to feeding them some of the seagrass. So turtles are quite content to hang around divers and get particularly close in the hope that they’ll be given a handful of grass.
When you think you’ve spent enough time with the turtles, and it’s hard not to want to spend the entire dive with the turtles, have a look around and the harder you look the more you’ll see.
The striped pufferfish are almost sand coloured, and can be hanging quite close by before you spot them.
Everywhere there are flat and tube anemones.
Within them you will find of course anemonefish, in this case Saddlebacks,
and also porcelain crabs.
In some you will find both an anemonefish and porcelain crabs.
You’ll also see other creatures, like this seacucumber, that are home to their symbiotic shrimps.
Look carefully in the clusters of seagrass as there are thorny seahorses hiding in there.
At some point, you may think that the sun has moved behind a cloud as the waters which are only 12 or so metres deep become darkened, in fact it’s more likely to be a swarm of Jacks passing overhead.
Whilst below a swarm of catfish tumble across the sandy sea floor.
Towards the point there is a little bit of rocky reef which provide shelter for various reef fish, and their mortal enemy – the lionfish.
If you’re lucky you may also see some Helmut Gurnards looking for somewhere to spend the night.
