Freedom IV is a mid-sized Red Sea liveaboard operated by Umbi Sharks Bay Resort in Sharm El Sheikh. The vessel accommodates up to 28 guests, with departures guaranteed from a minimum group size. It is suitable for individual divers, groups of friends, and dive clubs, and can also be booked as a private charter or for private day trips.
The liveaboard follows multi-dive itineraries across the northern Red Sea, typically offering three dives per day, with additional dives scheduled when conditions allow. Freedom IV focuses on practical comfort, efficient dive operations, and consistent access to well-known Red Sea dive regions.
Resort Facilities & Meals
The vessel features an air-conditioned saloon and dining area, equipped with a TV, music system and a small library. Meals are prepared daily and served buffet-style, with special dietary requirements accommodated when advised in advance. Drinking water, soft drinks, tea, coffee, and snacks are available throughout the day.
Staying Connected
Freedom IV operates in offshore areas where mobile coverage is limited. Wi-Fi is available when signal conditions allow, but connectivity should be considered intermittent throughout the trip.
We Think …
Freedom IV is well suited to divers who want access to classic Red Sea sites without unnecessary extras. Its capacity, flexible cabin options, and operation through Sharks Bay Resort make it a practical choice for organised dive safaris.
Freedom IV operates from Sharm El Sheikh, with embarkation from the private jetty at Umbi Sharks Bay Resort. From this base, itineraries typically explore the Straits of Tiran, Ras Mohammed National Park, local Sharm reefs, and selected wreck sites including the famous Thistlegorm wreck.
How to Get There
Guests arrive via Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, where transfers to Umbi Sharks Bay Resort are included. Embarkation begins at 20:00 on the first day, with dinner served onboard. There is no diving or sailing on embarkation day. The vessel departs early the following morning. Disembarkation takes place at 12:00 on the final day after lunch.
Freedom IV offers three cabin categories. Across all cabin types, storage space and essential onboard amenities are provided for multi-day dive trips.
King Bed + Two Single Beds Cabin
One larger cabin is configured with one king bed and two single beds, making it suitable for families or small groups of up to four divers. The cabin is located on the lower deck and offers shared occupancy, private bathroom facilities, and air-conditioning.
King Bed + One Single Bed Cabins
Four cabins feature one king bed and one single bed, ideal for couples or groups of three. These cabins are located on the main deck and include private bathrooms, air-conditioning, and shared occupancy options.
Twin Bed Cabins
Six twin cabins are fitted with two single beds and are suitable for dive buddies sharing accommodation. These cabins are located on the lower deck and include air-conditioning and private en-suite bathrooms.
Diving Location Features
Diving aboard Freedom IV follows the same operational standards and site selection used by Sharks Bay Resort. The Red Sea offers year-round diving with generally warm water temperatures and high visibility, often exceeding 30 m. Dive planning is adapted to weather, currents, and guest experience levels.
Dive Services
Daily schedules typically include three dives per day, with night dives offered when conditions allow. Diving is guided, with briefings conducted before each dive. Entry is from the main dive platform or via Zodiacs, depending on site conditions.
The dive deck includes dedicated gear storage, rinse tanks, toilets, and showers. 12-litre aluminium tanks, weights, and weight belts are provided, with both DIN and INT valves available. Divers are required to hold Advanced Open Water certification (or equivalent) with a minimum of 30 logged dives. Nitrox is available for Nitrox-certified divers.
Dive Sites
Freedom IV itineraries align with Sharks Bay Resort dive routes and may include the following regions:
Straits of Tiran
Sites such as Jackson Reef, Thomas Reef, Woodhouse Reef, and Gordon Reef are known for strong currents, steep reef walls, and large schools of fish. Reef sharks, pelagic species, and dense hard coral formations are commonly encountered.
Ras Mohammed National Park
Dives at Shark Reef, Yolanda Reef, Jackfish Alley, Anemone City, and Eel Garden offer high coral coverage, dramatic underwater topography, and dense fish life. These sites often combine reef exploration with drift diving.
Wreck Diving
Depending on itinerary and conditions, Freedom IV may access historic wrecks such as the SS Thistlegorm, Dunraven, and Million Hope, combining structural exploration with surrounding reef life.
Local Sharm El Sheikh Reefs
Additional dives may take place around Sharks Bay, Ras Nasrani, Ras Gamilah, and the Garden Reefs, offering sheltered conditions, coral gardens, sandy channels, and resident reef species suitable for relaxed dives and check dives.
