Lady Musgrave Experience runs daily trips to dive Lady Musgrave Island and dive ex-HMAS Tobruk wreck, departing from Bundaberg Port Marina, on the southern Great Barrier Reef. This is the best way to dive the remote and untouched dive sites within both the Bunker Group and Southern Capricorn Group of islands on the Great Barrier Reef.

Lady Musgrave HQ

Lady Musgrave HQ is a pontoon permanently moored in the lagoon surrounding Lady Musgrave Island. The 35 metre by 12 metre pontoon provides independent snorkel and dive platforms, as well as seamless access to high-speed dive boats and glass bottom boat.

A core attraction is the underwater observatory, where you can view marine life and the corals by day, and by night enjoy liveaboard-style bunk accommodation for up to 20 guests. This overnight option is perfect for dive groups or school groups.

Guests also have the option to sleep above the surface in an Upper Deck Island View Queen Glamping Bed.

Overnight stays include VIP transfers in the Captain’s Premium Lounge on your transfer on MV Reef Empress from Bundaberg Port Marina, meals, snorkelling equipment hire and linen. All accommodation utilise shared amenities with private hot shower cubicles and locker storage.

The MV Reef Empress is the flagship vessel for Lady Musgrave Experience. The 35-metre luxury high speed catamaran is surveyed for 220 persons over three decks. With a service speed of 25 knots and top speed of 32 knots, the Reef Empress safely navigates the seas in the shortest time possible to maximise your enjoyment diving Lady Musgrave Island.

The main deck seats up to 172 passengers in air-conditioned comfort with upholstered individual seating either around tables or in rows with maximum leg room for your journey. Large flat screen TVs show educational Great Barrier Reef videos and keep you up to date on where the vessel is located on the way to the Reef.

A buffet lunch is provided on board, with barista coffee available, a cold-water station for water to refill drink bottles and a well-stocked bar/kiosk. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.

Dive trips to the ex-HMAS Tobruk depart daily on the vessel, the MV Main Event, a 27m luxury high speed catamaran. Hot showers, wash tubs, spacious areas with tables and 240v power supplies and flat screen TVs are available.

Lady Musgrave Experience is located in Burnett Heads, near Bundaberg. The trip to Lady Musgrave Island takes approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes. Check-in is at 6:50 AM at Bundaberg Port Marina, returning at 5:00 PM. A shuttle service to and from your accommodation is available.

Accommodation options on lady Musgrave HQ include glamping tents on the upper deck, or…

Lady musgrave island

There is a great diversity of dive sites all around Lady Musgrave Island – with the dive site names giving a pretty good clue as to what you’ll encounter on each dive.

Manta Bommies dive site is a section of scattered bommies on a sandy sea floor that act as a cleaning station for manta rays with drift dives on both flood and ebb tides. Great for photography.

Canyons is a drift dive along a reef wall with coral gardens and overhangs where you will likely see sharks, turtles and other pelagic life as well as beautiful soft and hard corals.

The Caves is another gentle drift dive along the reef wall, with lots of overhangs and swim-throughs to explore.

Turtle Alley is a shallow lagoon dive with a sandy bottom and scattered bommies used as cleaning stations for resident green, loggerhead and hawksbill turtles.

The ex-HMAS Tobruk wreck was scuttled only a few years ago and has already attracted plenty of marine life, including a resident turtle called Brookie, large schools of bat fish, giant trevally and barracuda.

Here's what our clients say about us!

  • I've been using these guys since 2008, and every single trip has been awesome. Only thing I need to worry is to get to airport in time. They have wide experience of dive destinations and there's always an option to pick. Strong recommendation!

  • The team at Diveplanit were tremendous help for my recent trip to Palau. The trip was a bit last minute, and bookings were filling up, so I appreciated Claire’s patience and first-hand knowledge as we tried to find the right combination of dates, flights and operators. Unsurprisingly, the trip was spectacular and ticked off multiple bucket list experiences.

  • I have been using Diveplanit for several years now and just recently on a liveaboard trip to Komodo where there was a change of port arrival and Claire helped with the air travel changes and all went smoothly. Superb trip and organisation. Highly recommend.

  • Michelle is a legend. I didn't know how difficult it could be to organise travel and diving in Vanuatu! Having been there, I can only wonder at the organisation and care that went into making my trip special. There was even a cancelled flight that meant a rearrangement of activities on a couple of days. But it all went seamlessly. I would highly recommend Diveplanit.

  • Michelle was fantastic in helping with my recent PNG excursion. I got straightforward and detailed advice, and nothing was too much trouble. I had some package tweaks after committing to the initial trip, but the changes were no problem. There's no question whom I'll contact for my next South Pacific itinerary.

  • Had a fabulous trip diving at Ningaloo, all organised from the other side of the world by Claire at Diveplanit. When the airline cancelled my flights and I would’ve been stranded, she rescheduled them for me on a Sunday! That’s 7-star rating! 🙏 🥰
