Yucatán Dive Trek is a tour operator based in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula that organizes and customize trips to the best destinations in the region in and on the water as well as overland.

Based in Playa del Carmen, they organize trips that cannot be duplicated by anyone else, with exclusive access to some of the most sought-after attractions in the Yucatán, providing 24/7, on-the-ground support to customers. The Yucatán Dive Trek family of companies includes XTC Dive Center, a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Centre that offers a combination of first-class facilities and services in a remote, unspoiled setting.

With many years of expertise in diving and all levels of diving instruction, XTC specializes in unique, off-the-beaten-track underwater opportunities, such as close encounters with American crocodiles, large schools of tarpon and sailfish, and the world’s largest population of manatees (often found on the reef).

Located just north of the Mexico-Belize border in the fishing village of Xcalak, within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park and 36 nautical miles from the Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve, XTC is the only dive operation running in both locales and the only one with a private permit for diving the pristine reefs and abandoned shipwrecks of Chinchorro. XTC is also the only operator with an official concession for American crocodile encounters.

Any other diving operators that can access Chinchorro (using fishing permits) are single-boat co-ops based in Mahahual, the second-busiest cruise ship port in Mexico—a place that attracts a very different clientele.

Trips can be custom built based on a series of established modules, which are organized by location and season. Depending on the itinerary you want to put together, it is possible to focus on one module as the main event of the trip, and then add other modules as pre- or post-trip extensions.

Along with state-of-the-art equipment and a custom-built, self-contained facility designed for sustainability and superior customer experience, XTC provides world-class instruction at all levels, from one-of-a-kind, conservation-focused professional internships to Technical training (up to and including full Trimix instructor) and Rebreather programs, in addition to the full range of PADI Recreational training programs.

The Yucatan Dive Trek group of companies is committed to environmental conservation and sustainable tourism, having developed specialised protocol for diving in fragile environments, they ensure staff, partners and guests are properly trained before they dive. Trips are supported by local, independently run businesses, and incorporate local cultural elements and native artisanal products whenever possible.

Designed as a 100-percent self-contained facility, XTC Dive Center features elaborate systems for conserving fresh water and reducing waste, including a biodigestive septic system for complete wastewater treatment. On principal, XTC does not buy any plastics, nor does the restaurant serve any seafood (other than the invasive lion fish).

Committed to sustainable communities on dry land, XTC Dive Center, pays fair wages and employs our staff year-round (in a traditionally seasonal business), providing stable jobs and help to keep money circulating in the local economy.
