Kunie Scuba Center is the only dive centre on New Caledonia’s Isle of Pines. In operation for over 46 years, their experienced staff provide an enjoyable and safe diving service to the island’s many dive sites.
Kunie is the local language of the Isle of Pines, meaning literally, ‘Sea Jewelry Box” a great description of the island’s underwater treasures. The Kunie Scuba Center is a PADI Dive Resort and operates two dive boats, the boat you use depends on the conditions of the day of the dive. The experienced crew are a mix of French, Japanese and local dive guides, all passionate about show-casing their island home.

The Kunie Scuba Center is a PADI Dive Resort and operates two dive boats, a 6.5 m BWA surveyed for 6 divers and 9 m NAIAD surveyed for 12 divers.
On board both dive boats are emergency oxygen, first aid kits, radio and mobile phones, life vests and diving equipment spares and parts. The boat you use depends on the conditions of the day of the dive.
Kunie Scuba Center has English, French and Japanese-speaking dive guides and instructors. The equipment is all in good condition. All dive centres in New Caledonia have tanks with DIN regulator fittings.
The diving day starts with a hotel transfer at 7:45am and 8:45 boat departure. Two dives are provided before returning to the dive shop at 12:30pm for a 1:00pm transfer to your hotel.
The Isle of Pines is surrounded on all sides by a UNESCO World Natural Heritage listed lagoon, under complete protection since 2008. The island, with its coral uplift, is dynamic with varied underwater terrain.
Dive sites feature a mix of canyons, swim-throughs and sea caverns, with a wealth of soft coral and giant gorgonian fans. Sites such as Grand Canyon feature a valley sandwiched between two drop offs, populated by grey reefs sharks, tuna and the occasional hammerhead, and the v-shaped Vallee de Gorgones which features a heart-shaped swim through and a virtual forest of gorgonian fans and colourful soft corals.
Perhaps the Isle of Pines signature dive site is Jardin d’Eden (Garden of Eden), where, amongst the maze-like canyons you’ll find vibrant soft corals and gorgonian fans, with resident pygmy sea horses, banded sea crates, clouds of anthias, and in the blue, turtles, reef sharks and schools of pelagic fish – everything from Macro to Wide Angle.
